Since having children, my hormones haven’t been the same. They’re better then they were before I had children but now they’re just different. I really believe that part of this is due to just being a parent… you know, the never ending running around, the worry, the stress, and the sleepless nights (going 5 years strong).

I do my best to take good care of my body. I eat well and truly care about what I put in my body. My goal for myself is to work towards feeling my best. Nourishing myself with whole foods is my act of self love.

But like everyone, I can get stuck eating the same things over and over, which can ultimately cause some serious stagnation in the body. At times, this works. It’s routine (which I like) and just simply eating well works. In other times, health is a huge bumpy roller coaster ride that can call for intervention. And not the bad kind of intervention, the needed kind.

This is when it’s time to change routines and make a shift.

Now, I usually don’t drink smoothies for breakfast and the reason why is that it never fills me up, leaving me reaching for snacks and having hunger pains a lot faster. I want breakfast to be filling, energizing and sustaining. I don’t find smoothies do that. And the other smoothies I have had in the past, are either too filling in the moment that I don’t eat anything else, again leaving me hungry within an hour.

After some serious testing and research, I found the answer I was looking for: The Ultimate Morning Smoothie which is…

Energy Boosting, Hormone Balancing and Stress Busting!

The reasons?

Ashwagandha: This is a herb that is referred to as an adaptogen simply meaning it helps the body to manage stress. It also helps to keep blood sugar balanced, help the body deal with symptoms of anxiety, depression and help to reduce inflammation.

Medicinal mushrooms, specifically chaga, reishi, turkey tail, cordyceps and lions mane. When you use medicinal mushrooms together, they work synergistically making them more potent to the body. The more mushrooms, the greater the benefit. These medicinal mushrooms all have different properties which promote health and wellness in the body: powerful antioxidants, immune boosting, calming of the mind, anti-cancer fighting power, energy, support endurance and the nervous system.

Maca: if you haven’t heard of maca before, now is the time to get familiar with this hormone loving root. Maca boosts energy, mood, and is considered one of the most powerful foods to balance hormones for both women and men, including issues of fertility and libido.

I have worked this smoothie into my morning routine, and it has made a big difference already. I have noticed that I am calmer and my hormones have started to stabilize. My energy has also increased, but in the right way. I have more energy throughout the day and I am tired in the evening, which is how it should be.

This smoothie serves one and should be consumed before eating breakfast to optimize digestion and energy!

Ingredients:

1/2 ripe banana
2 tbsp nut or seed butter of choice
1 tsp ashwagandha
1 tsp 5 Mushroom powder
1 tsp raw maca
1/8 tsp true cinnamon
1 cup nut or seed milk (preferably homemade, I used my Walnut Mylk)

Directions:

Throw all ingredients into a blender and blend on high until smooth and creamy.

And remember, to really feel the benefits of all these medicinal ingredients, it needs to be consumed regularly, if not daily.

Do you have a favourite smoothie you drink often that has helped to improve your health? I would love to hear about it so feel free to comment below!
